For the qualitative detection of IgM antibodies to Cytomegalovirus in human serum. Infections with CMV, a member of the herpesvirus family, are common in man and are usually mild and asymptomatic. However, in pregnant women, newborns and immunocompromised individuals, CMV infections may pose a significant medical risk. Detection of IgM-class antibodies to cytomegalovirus may be useful to assess for recent infection with cytomegalovirus.
