November, known globally as Movember, is dedicated to men’s health, a time to raise awareness about prostate cancer, one of the most common cancers in men. At Medicover Laboratories Cyprus, we stand by our mission to promote early detection and prevention through accessible and reliable testing.

Understanding Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, with 1 in 8 men diagnosed during their lifetime. Each year, approximately 800 new cases are detected in Cyprus. The disease often develops slowly, and in many cases, prostate cancers do not spread or cause serious harm — but early detection remains essential.

Unfortunately, prostate cancer may show no symptoms in its early stages, which makes regular screening even more important. When symptoms do appear, they may include:

  • Difficulty passing urine
  • Weak urine stream
  • Blood in urine or semen
  • Erection or ejaculation problems

The Importance of the PSA Test

The PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) test is a simple blood test that helps detect potential signs of prostate cancer early — often before symptoms appear. It’s quick, safe, and highly recommended for:

  • Men aged 45 and above (annually after 50)
  • Men with a strong family history of prostate cancer (starting at age 40)

Preparation tip: avoid ejaculation for two days before the test and refrain from intense physical activity, especially cycling, for accurate results.

At Medicover Laboratories, we believe that awareness and accessibility can save lives. Throughout November, we are offering the PSA test at a special price of €10 across all our blood collection points in Cyprus, encouraging more men to take this important step for their health. Our Commitment to Awareness and Prevention

To make screening even more accessible, Medicover Laboratories collaborates with large companies across Cyprus, providing on-premises blood collection services for their people. This initiative not only makes testing easier but also helps foster a culture of prevention in the workplace.

We also organise online awareness sessions for companies, aiming to educate people about prostate cancer, risk factors, and the importance of early detection through PSA testing.

Take action this Movember. A simple blood test could make all the difference.
